Ecroob GTK Theme

As an optimist, I assume that the reason no one really likes my Ecru theme is because it uses the gtk mist engine (not that it is shit). So to remedy this I’ve gone the complete other way and made a murrine engine version, and you’ll need git murrine I think, as we speak.

  1. It looks pretty nice. I’ll try it out got a while and maybe it’ll replace Rezlooks. :)

  2. Long ago I converted your Ecru theme to use the rezlooks engine and recently I’ve been using the Ecru-M theme that emulates the same rezlooks look.

I don’t have any idea if I’ve said it before, but both Ecru and Eggshell are awesome themesets. Your icon work is pretty stellar and the themes are basic enough that I can look at them forever and stylish enough that I don’t mind. This GTK looks almost as good – though I don’t care for the alternate coloring on the combo box arrows. Once I’ve changed that, however, I’m sure I’ll have a new go to GTK theme.

On a separate but related note, I’ve created an emerald theme that goes with Ecru/ Eggshell. If you’d like it (to add to your nerd files section etc.), I’ll be more than happy to send it your way.

  3. I think you are right the combo boxes were a bit crappy, I still like the idea of having a different coloured arrow but I’ve set them much lighter, and I think they look better (like this but ignore the roundness). I think I might colourise the scrollbar to make it easier to see, I dunno. This is actually a throwback from some other theme I just can’t get right – so I can get used to the murrine engine, I still have a lot of time for mist :)

I’d love to add an emerald theme to the Ecru git if you can email me or twitter a link or something i’ll push it up. I’d like to do something with the metacity theme so that it can play nicer with chrome as well as they both use the metaframe class, which is kind of a mess.

Its nice to know *someone* likes the theme though and its ignorability, thanks, as always for the encouragement :) I’m using the icons from gnome git right now, they are really beautiful if you haven’t tried them.

  4. I do like the lighter colors, though the problem that I see (and my main complaint with both alternatly colored versions) is that, if the combo box is too short, the text will overlap onto the ‘arrow’ portion of the box and it looks pretty terrible.

I’m polishing up the emerald theme now (As soon as I finished my above post,I found a few issues with it.) I’ll upload it and pass you on a link. With regards to the metacity theme interacting poorly with chrome, I have no idea what could fix it – I rarely use metacity and I’ve only ever used chrome on other people’s computers. (I find midori to be perfect for most of my browsing and firefox/opera perfect for development testing.)

Above, when I was mentioning your icon work, I was referencing the icons in the Ecru and Eggshell packs, not the ones in your last shot, though I do like the gnome3 icons. The only complain I have is the arrows – I haven’t any idea what Jimmac et all (I assume it’s still Jimmac’s work) were thinking with the back/forward arrows…

  7. it’s actually:
    bsetroot -mod 6 6 -bg “#8B8D83″ -fg “#736D62″

You could probably use xsetroot or something too?
